At Ridgelands State School we offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities including:

  • delivering co-curricular enhancement programs such as our award winning Robotics program that strengthens student use and knowledge of computer software and programming. Project 600 is a virtual classroom project that improves student achievement and outcomes in reading and secures success across all the learning areas and beyond. Switching students onto reading and developing fluent, competent, independent problem-solvers who willingly read widely for different purposes are the goals.
  • encouraging regular sporting group program visits delivered by experienced and professional coaching representatives. Each program is designed to cater to all students irrespective of their aptitudes and interests including Football for Children, Backyard Rugby League, Beak’s Tennis and Greg Norman Golf Foundation.

  • offering a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. We specialise in managing a competitively successful school equestrian team that participates in local events throughout the year. In the past the team has won a prestigious award for Australian Day Best Junior Team as well as Interschool competitions ‘Highest event points’ and ‘March Past’ Champions. Chess club and table tennis tournaments are regularly held.
  • participation in the Rockhampton District Interschool Sports Competition including Winter and/or Summer team sports, including Athletics and Swimming.
  • fostering the diversity of student talents by offering the opportunity to participate in great events such as school musicals, singing choirs, eisteddfods and events such as 'Music Count Us In.'

 Religious Instruction

Queensland state schools embrace a multitude of cultural, religious and non-religious beliefs. Under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006, schools are to provide Religious Instruction (RI) if approached by a faith group seeking to provide RI and students of that faith attend the school.

RI informs students about the beliefs and values of a particular religion. It is delivered by volunteers of a faith group using instructional materials approved by that faith group. RI is required to be consistent with legislation and Department of Education policies and procedures.

All RI instructors must hold a blue card and participate in compulsory Student Protection and Code of Conduct training. RI instructors are only entitled to deliver the RI program outlined below. A school staff member will be present during the delivery of RI.

Participation in RI is not compulsory. Any student (except Prep students) may participate in RI if a parent has provided written instructions to the school.

Students are allocated to RI based on information provided by parents on the completed Application for student enrolment unless other written instructions have been provided to the school.

Note: This consent remains in effect unless the parent informs the school otherwise in writing.

A description of the RI available is provided below.
